J.C. Watts to speak at Elon University about leadership lessons learned while in Congress

J.C. Watts, former U.S. Congressman and Visiting Professor of Leadership at Elon University, will be giving a speech
titled “Leadership Lessons from the Sidelines and Aisles of Congress”on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in McCrary Theater. This speech will be followed with a question and answer session in Whitley Auditorium at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Watts, from Oklahoma, was elected to U.S. Congress in 1994. During his three terms, he served eight years on the House Armed Services Committee and authored several pieces of legislation, including George W. Bush’s Community Solutions Act of 2001 and the American Community Renewal and New Markets Act, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton. Watts also worked with Congressman John Lewis to establish a Smithsonian Museum of African American History.

Watts is currently chairman of the J.C. Watts Companies, a firm that assists with business development, communications and public affairs strategies, strategic focus and program leadership. He serves as an analyst on CNN as well as national radio shows and writes a column twice a month that appears in more than a dozen newspapers.
